The Security Group security system will be deprecated in a future version of Remote Desktop Manager and Devolutions Password Server. We recommend to use the new Role Based Security System.

 

Security Groups are used to assign a security scheme to all entries, but we recommend you set them only on folders which will result in the child entries to inherit the security group. There is no direct relationship between Active Directory and Security Groups. By default, every session is created without a security group, and is visible to all connected users. You can grant permissions against a group to a user account or to a role.

All sessions without security groups are considered public.

 

Managing Security Groups

 

Security groups are managed from the Security Groups button of the Devolutions Password Server Console or from Administration - Security Groups in Remote Desktop Manager.

Security groups have no significant properties of their own, they carry a name and a description. They are simply a linking mechanism between an entry and a security matrix (from the users or roles permissions). A Security group can be interpreted as a container of sessions.

To create a new security group in your data source click on Add Security Group.

OPTION

DESCRIPTION

Name

Enter a name for your new Security Group. The ellipsis button on the right allows to browse the Active Directory structure to select an Active Directory Group as the name of the new Role.

Description

Enter a short description of your new Security Group.

 

Email Notifications

Email Notifications are used to send email notifications to specific users.

Username

If enabled, will send notification to the user about modifications for this security group. It could be set on specific operation (Edit and/or Delete).
